One of DC Comics' most iconic superheroes to have gone through a big evolution is Dick Grayson a.k.a. Nightwing. While Batman fans know him as the first Robin to serve by Bruce Wayne's side, the character has gone on to become his own hero over the last few decades. As Dick discovered that he wasn't just someone to be in Batman's shadow, he took it upon himself and created a new mantle for himself. Rather than be simply another weapon for Batman, Dick found his own definition of being a hero.

Through Titans, Brenton Thwaites may not be the first actor to play Dick Grayson, but he became the first actor to bring Nightwing to life. After years of waiting, fans finally got to see a version of Dick Grayson suit up as the beloved hero in live-action. 10 About That "Ric" Name

Dick has had a few awkward phases within his time in the DC Universe, to say the least. One of them was when the comic book publisher insisted on having him start going by Ric Grayson as opposed to Dick. While characters always go through changes, this was one that didn't really sit well with fans, going as far as canonizing their feelings.

Forever and always, Dick will be the cooler name if there is to be a nickname for Richard. "Ric" sounds just plain lazy and silly because all it does is drop a "k" from Rick.

It'll always be a mystery about what or who thought the idea of renaming Dick "Ric" was ever a good idea. While that may never get a proper answer, it's always possible to imagine what the conversation looked like at the DC Comics headquarters. How many were in favor or against the "Ric" suggestion and how did they agree to it? Either way, anyone who is a true Nightwing fan knows that he has and always will be Dick.

7 Dick Grayson's "Code"

When the first trailer for Titans dropped years ago, it was met with some very interesting reactions. While it was a darker depiction of the Teen Titans, it was Thwaites' future-Nightwing that stole the spotlight completely. While earlier versions of Robin in other projects have portrayed him as more light-hearted, this incarnation was quite different.

From all the brutal action that was seen in snippets of footage, it looked like they have made Dick into a murderer. As violent as it looked, it was still being stressed that he isn't a killer.

The third and final installment to Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise, The Dark Knight Rises, had fans buzzing when it came to who Joseph Gordon-Levitt was actually playing. With multiple theories floating around, there were some that believed he was playing a different version of Dick. As it turned out, it was more of a nod to multiple Robins. Thankfully, he wasn't Nightwing, because imagine anyone having to avoid social media that week when the film was coming out as this meme perfectly puts it.

Anyone who is in a relationship or perhaps in a friend with benefits dynamic is well aware of how normal it is to be flirting over text messages, especially through photos. While it can be awkward for others to hear about "dick pics", Nightwing definitely made that term more appealing for fans of his character.

Whether you're a Teen Titans fan or a simple Nightwing admirer, you have probably sent "Dick pics" to friends who are fans of the character too. If you've never messed with someone and said "look at this Dick pic!", then you're missing out.

4 The Young Justice Viewing Experience

One of the best portrayals of Nightwing in animated properties is Young Justice, one of the stronger DC animated series of all time. Since the first season, Dick has been a primary character as he was part of founding the beloved team of young superheroes. While he began as Robin, any viewer can probably relate to what it was like to tune into the series versus having finished all 3 available seasons.

3 Try To Resist Nightwing

One of the most normal things you can do as a fan of something is to fall in love with a character, fictional or not. Some people will never understand it and there's nothing wrong with that. But if someone can actually resist falling in love with Nightwing, then that's a mystery. With all the qualities that Nightwing has to offer, including his infamous assets, it's perfectly normal to fall in love with a fictional hero like Dick Grayson.

2 Only True Batman Fans Know About The Sidekicks

To say that Batman is one of the most popular superheroes of all time is one of the biggest understatements of this generation. Even if someone isn't a hardcore Batman fan, everyone knows who the character is, with his logo being one of the most recognizable images on the planet. But to love Batman, but have never heard of his Bat-Family, including Nightwing and more, is a crime in itself. Besides, without his extended family, Bruce wouldn't exactly be the most interesting person to follow.

1 Nightwing Vs Red Hood

Dick Grayson isn't the only one to have ditched the mantle of being a Boy Wonder as Jason Todd had a similar journey. Although it should be pointed out that his transformation was a lot more brutal, given that he was killed by the Joker and then came back to life before taking the Red Hood name.

That's why there will always be a debate amongst Nightwing and Red Hood fans in who was the better Robin out of the two. But heaven forbid if a Robin War ever happened because Jason managed to troll Dick into thinking that Starfire thought the second Boy Wonder was the better one.
